“Let them see the Killer of the Unkillable, the Legend Slayer. Let them see me and fear me.”

My name is Davian of Tarniv, and I’ve never been anyone of significance — most farmers and shepherds aren’t.

Though after impulsively entering a deadly competition for the princess’s hand, that will change. I will become known as Champion, Legend Slayer, Prince, and Killer of the Unkillable.

I’m told to fortify myself, to wear these names like armor in a foreign land of conspiring politics, foes masked as allies, and riddled words of warning. Nothing is what it seems, they say, in the palace of Vel Orin. Even my senses will betray me, painting pictures of monsters writhing in dark corners, better left to the imagination. If I can wield the weapon of reputation, don the facade of a warrior prince—Champion—perhaps I can survive it.

But there’s a darkness lurking within the palace that even my new names can’t protect me from.

Tensions rise as giants gather at our borders. Shadows stalk my every move. Prestigious nobility turn their noses up at the underprivileged heir. My veiled betrothed’s heart is as caged as her identity.

And the king is out to kill me.
