Starforger’s Awakening by Roger Matthews
English | 2026 | Sci-Fi & Fantasy
At fifteen, Cole is supposed to learn where he belongs. An orphan raised with little more than stubbornness, quick thinking, and the charity of others, he has spent his entire life hoping Naming Day will finally give him a place in the world. Instead, his Class mark matches nothing in the temple records, no priest can tell him what he has become, and a town with little enough to spare decides it cannot keep supporting someone who appears to have no useful Class at all.
With a few supplies, a painful farewell from the woman who raised him, and nowhere else to call home, Cole takes to the road. He joins the Adventurers Guild at its lowest rank and begins accepting whatever work will keep him fed—pests, minor monsters, dangerous roads, and contracts too small for experienced adventurers to bother with. Then a wrong turn leads him into a dungeon that seals behind him, and Cole discovers that the Class everyone dismissed may be capable of things no one around him has ever seen.
Afterward, the jobs Cole reports to the Guild remain small. The things dying along his route do not. Monsters far beyond the contracts he accepts begin disappearing, dangerous places grow strangely quiet, and rumors spread about high-level exterminations no one can explain. Eventually, someone notices that every impossible victory seems to share one detail: Cole was nearby.
Cole spent his childhood as an orphan with no family name, no inheritance, and no future anyone considered important. Now the world has decided his Class is worthless simply because no one can name it. Starforger’s Awakening is the beginning of his journey from unwanted orphan to wandering adventurer—and the first hint that the strange mark on his hand may change far more than Cole ever imagined
