“Did you hear? They found a kid, dead. Brutally dead again,” the voice of the retired CIA operative whispered, his past an enigma wrapped in shadows.
His companion felt an icy shiver race down his spine. “I missed the news.”
With eyes that seemed to see threats even in the shadows, the operative leaned in. “A teenager. Discarded in a Southeast dumpster. Left there, forgotten, decaying for days.”
Swallowing the unease rising in his throat, his companion pressed, “Any suspects?”
With a hushed intensity, the answer came, “Jack Richards.”
“Who is Jack Richards?” His voice echoed the question that seemed to hang in the air.
The operative smirked, “That, my friend, is the million-dollar question…”
