The first time I saw our neighbor, Naomi Sheller, she froze in the middle of the grocery store, eyes wide with terror, as if death itself had touched her shoulder. Days later, she was gone. Found dead in the woods. Her husband, Eric, in handcuffs.
We moved to the small town of Buxton Falls to raise our daughters somewhere safe.
Now I’m thinking we made a terrible mistake.
‘There’s a package on the porch,’ my husband calls as he leaves for work. I rip open the brown paper and find three books inside. I didn’t order them.
One book is about a murder eerily similar to what happened to Naomi.
The second book has another murder. And the victim sounds exactly like me.
And whoever sent these books . . . knows exactly where I live.
